Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Financial Assistance & Grants
Q: Who is eligible to receive financial assistance through Heart of the Matter Wellness?A: Financial assistance is designed for individuals and couples who demonstrate financial need and are seeking couples counseling, low-cost couples intensives, or supplemental interventions (such as HeartMath® HRV biofeedback or PIR/HEG neurofeedback). Applicants must receive services through one of our approved provider partners.
Q: How do I apply for financial aid?
A: You can apply directly through our website by filling out the Financial Aid Application form. You will be asked to provide basic household financial details and indicate which approved provider or service you plan to utilize.
Q: How much of my session costs will the financial grant cover?
A: Grant amounts vary based on individual financial need and available donor funds. Financial awards typically cover a partial percentage of each session or intensive cost, helping significantly lower your out-of-pocket expenses.
Q: Does financial aid cover services from any therapist?A: No. Grants are specifically allocated to support services delivered by our approved provider network (Matters of the Heart Counseling, etc)
Services & Modalities
Q: What are couples intensives, and how are they subsidized?A: Couples intensives are condensed, multi-hour or multi-day counseling sessions designed to create deep relationship progress in a shorter timeframe. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, Heart of the Matter Wellness subsidizes these sessions so couples can access high-impact care at a fraction of the traditional cost.
Q: Do I have to stop seeing my current talk therapist to receive HRV or Neurofeedback support?
A: Not at all! Heart Rate Variability (HRV) biofeedback utilizing HeartMath® and PIR/HEG neurofeedback are non-traditional, supportive interventions. They are designed to complement and enhance the traditional therapy you are already doing by improving nervous system regulation and brain activity.
Q: How does HeartMath® HRV Biofeedback work alongside therapy?
A: HeartMath® technology tracks your heart rate variability in real time to help you train your autonomic nervous system into a state of "coherence." This physiological balance makes it easier to process complex emotions, reduce anxiety, and stay grounded during traditional therapy sessions.
Q: What is PIR/HEG Neurofeedback?A: Passive Infrared (PIR) and Hemoencephalography (HEG) neurofeedback measure blood flow and metabolic activity in the prefrontal cortex. By training brain activity in this region, clients improve executive function, stress recovery, and emotional regulation.
Getting Started
Q: What happens after my financial aid application is approved?A: Once approved, our team will notify both you and your selected approved provider. Your subsidy or grant funds will be applied directly toward your billable sessions, so you only pay the remaining reduced balance.
Q: Where do I go if I need help choosing an approved provider?
A: You can browse our Approved Provider Network directory to view specialties, therapist profiles, and locations. If you're unsure who would be the best fit, feel free to submit an inquiry through our Contact Us page, and our care coordinator will help guide you.
